Tracing in the client for Outlook is enabled via a registry key or using Microsoft Dynamics CRM Diagnostics.

In Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, there is no obvious way in the application to send direct e-mail to members of a marketing list.

Quick Campaigns are used to create a single interaction with a list of Accounts, Contacts or Leads.

The interaction can be a Phone Call, Appointment, Letter, Fax or Email.

Quick Campaigns and Outlook
If working with the CRM Client for Outlook additional options are available: Letter via Mail Merge, Fax via Mail Merge and E-mail via Mail Merge. The Mail Merge options require Microsoft Office Word.

Problem configuring Outlook Client when host headers are used

If host headers were used to install the CRM web site on the web server then you may run into problems when configuring the CRM Client for Outlook.

During configuration you may get errors saying that the CRM web site cannot be contacted (even though you can in Internet Explorer).

The solution is to follow the steps in this article:

User is repeatedly asked for username and password in CRM Client for Outlook

Sometimes when working in the CRM Client for Outlook and if Internet Explorer 7 is installed a dialog box appears asking the user to login. Even if the user enters a correct username and password the dialog box reappears. Clicking cancel on the dialog box each time eventually sorts the situation.

To prevent the dialog box appearing change the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_SUBDOWNLOAD_LOCKDOWN

from 1 to 0.

Changes to the Outlook CRM Client in Update Rollup 7

Update Rollup 7 for the CRM 4.0 Outlook Client introduces a number of important changes and updates:

  • Update Rollup 7 becomes a new baseline for installing future updates
  • Once UR7 is installed it may not be uninstalled
  • Includes support for Windows 7
  • Tested with Office 2010 but not officially supported until Office 2010 RTM
  • 64-bit Office 2010 not supported (may come with CRM 5.0)
  • Client installation is streamlined

The CRM Client for Outlook adds the following address books to Outlook:

  • CRM Accounts
  • CRM Contacts
  • CRM Facilities/Equipment
  • CRM Leads
  • CRM Queues
  • CRM Users

A user can configure which records are available in the address books in Set Personal Options|Address Book.

For Contacts a user can choose all contacts to appear in the address book or only the contacts that have been synchronized to Outlook.
