Running negative queries

29 Oct 2012

Sometimes you need to get a list of records (say contacts) that don't have any related records of a particular type (e.g. appointments).
Unfortunately, this is not possible using Advanced Find as it can only return lists of records that have related records (e.g. contacts with appointments). Yes, you can narrow the related records (e.g. contacts with appointments after a certain date) but not to the extent of querying for contacts with no appointments.

"Unable to load client print control" error

29 Oct 2012

This appears to a common error when trying to print a Microsoft Dynamics CRM report. The discussion at this thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/4a4a2239-3ac5-4f1d-8b2d-b2c5f03d3c07/ has a lot of tips.

Note the suggestion to delete a registry setting seems to be the best.

Filter subject keywords setting for Smart Matching decoded

29 Oct 2012

In Microsoft Dynamics CRM, tracked e-mails can be linked to the appropriate records using a Tracking Token or Smart Matching. Smart Matching matches e-mails to records based on similar recipients and subject lines. However, noise words such as FW: and RE: in the subject line are ignored.

Unable to validate SQL Server Reporting Services Report Server installation

29 Oct 2012

When trying to install the SSRS Data Connector you may encounter the error:
"Unable to validate SQL Server Reporting Services Report Server installation".
There are many reasons why this might happen but I came across a rather obscure one where a 32-bit SQL Server was installed on a 64-bit Windows server. It seems that this combination is not supported as per this article:

Contracts in Cases - Form Assistant Behaviour

20 Sep 2012

When a case is created, the Customer field must be completed. As with other records the customer can be an account or contact. But which should you use?

  • If you select an account, then the case shows against the account record but you have nothing to say who logged or is affected by the case.
  • If you select a contact, then case shows against the contact record and the account (via rollup).

Depending on whether you select an account or contact, the Form Assistant for the Contracts behaves differently.
