Deploying Update Rollups to Dynamics CRM for Outlook

Update Rollups for Microsoft Dynamics CRM are released every two months or so. If you have a large number of users deploying the updates manually naturally takes time. There are three methods for deploying Update Rollups automatically.

CRM address book

The CRM Client for Outlook adds the following address books to Outlook:

  • CRM Accounts
  • CRM Contacts
  • CRM Facilities/Equipment
  • CRM Leads
  • CRM Queues
  • CRM Users

A user can configure which records are available in the address books in Set Personal Options|Address Book.

For Contacts a user can choose all contacts to appear in the address book or only the contacts that have been synchronized to Outlook.

Tracking E-mails error - "The text entered exceeds the maximum length"

You may get the above error when tracking e-mails from the Outlook client. A solution appears to be to change the length of the Message Id (messageid) attribute on the E-mail entity from 100 to 200 or more.

Why this works or is needed, I don't know.

 

Multiple Organizations in Outlook Client

When Outlook is configured with one Microsoft Dynamics CRM organization, the organization name is shown in the list of Outlook folders. However, when more than one organization is configured Outlook renames the folder to Solutions. This behaviour is a feature of Outlook and cannot be changed by the CRM client.
