Export to Excel changes in CRM 2015 Update 1 and CRM 2016

Starting with CRM Online 2015 Update 1 and CRM 2016 On-Premises Export to Excel behaves differently.

The dialog box which offered the setting “Make this data available for re-importing by including required column headings” no longer shows.

Instead, Export to Excel is now a split button on the command bar with the choices Static Worksheet, Static Worksheet (Page only), Dynamic Worksheet and Dynamic PivotTable. Clicking Export to Excel without using the split selects the first choice which is to export all records in the current view. All choices include the columns required to allow the worksheet to be imported back to CRM.

The exported file has protection, hidden columns and data validation. You can turn data validation off by following these steps:

  • Select the whole worksheet
  • On the Data tab, in Data Tools, click Data Validation
  • In the Data Validation window, click Clear All and then OK
